Collider

"Collider" is about a moment in some people's lives where two different interests unite and transform your journey into something new. This moment arrived by the end of 2022 when I decided to learn Physics and Astronomy, so I returned to college. I am originally a filmmaker and photographer, and my entire background comes from art. The work's name and visual inspiration are the particle colliders essential to discovering all about ourselves and the Universe. Despite being a scientific quest, they have a significant connection to philosophical questions.

I chose the cyanotype process for this work first because I am keen to experiment with alternative ways of photographic printing. But also because an English astronomer, Sir John Frederick William Herschel, invented the cyanotype process. Since I am inspired by science and cosmology, it was the perfect process for this work.

Cyanotype is a contact process where the negative has to be the final size of the print. This piece was made with a single digital negative. (196in × 23.6in).
